These ranks are given for example only. There are many more variations within the British Army, such as titles and names for these ranks. Remember that Pipe Major or QM is a title. Lastly these ranks are not exclusive to Ladies or Gentlemen. Both can and do hold these ranks within the British Army. I cannot comment on the positions of Pipe Major and Drum Major. Unless you know the answer?

 

Warrant Officer 1st Class.
Highest non commissioned rank for a Pipe Major, Quartermaster (QM) or Drum Major.This rank is also used by the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM)

Warrant Officer 2nd Class.
Squadron Sergeant Major or sometimes called Sergeant Major (SSM). Second in command to the RSM.
Warrant Officer 2nd Class.
This rank can also be held by the Pipe Major. The wreath around the crown signifies that this is used as a trade rank such as QM or Drum Major. Not a Sergeant Major but still addressed as Sir for a male.
Staff Sergeant.
This is the minimum rank to hold a senior position, such as the Pipe Major or Quartermaster. Some units call this rank Colour Sergeant or Master Sergeant

Sergeant.
There are two positions that can hold this rank. Pipe Sergeant and Sergeant Pipers/Drummers. The Pipe Sergeant is the second in command to the PM. (2IC)

Corporal.
Both the Pipe Corporal and Corporal Pipers/Drummers can hold this rank.

Lance Corporal.
First rung on the promotion ladder.
